How ChatGPT Diagnosed My Wrist Injury Faster Than a Radiologist
The Curious Case of My Wrist Fracture
I never thought I’d say this, but ChatGPT medical diagnosis might just be my new favorite medical assistant. Let me take you through an unexpectedly impressive experience where AI outpaced a radiologist in diagnosing my wrist injury — and did it in seconds.

The Injury
It all started with a nasty fall. A sharp pain shot through my wrist, radiating from the base of my thumb. Something felt off. So, like any responsible (and slightly paranoid) adult, I went to get an X-ray.

The radiology team did their job, snapped the images, and told me I’d get my results soon. But soon wasn’t soon enough — I wanted to know what was wrong NOW.
ChatGPT Medical Diagnosis Comes To The Rescue 
Out of curiosity (and impatience), I uploaded my X-ray images and asked ChatGPT what it thought. Within seconds, the AI responded with a detailed breakdown, suggesting a distal radius fracture with potential dislocation. It even explained how this type of injury is common in falls on an outstretched hand and might be classified as a Colles’ or Smith’s fracture depending on the impact angle.

I was impressed, but I wasn’t stopping there.
What About the Navicular (Scaphoid)? 
Since my pain was concentrated at the base of my thumb, I specifically asked ChatGPT about the navicular (scaphoid) bone. Once again, the AI gave me an incredibly detailed response, mentioning that scaphoid fractures are sometimes hard to detect on initial X-rays and might require an MRI or repeat scan in 1–2 weeks.

At this point, I was already questioning whether I even needed a human radiologist. But I waited for my official results…

The Radiologist’s Report vs. ChatGPT’s Diagnosis 
Hours later, the radiologist’s official report came in. Guess what it said?
Acute, slightly displaced intra-articular avulsion fracture of the radial styloid (exactly as ChatGPT predicted!)
Soft tissue edema (swelling)
No major dislocation or additional bone lesions
Scaphoid (navicular) appears intact, but follow-up imaging may be needed
Almost word for word, ChatGPT had nailed the diagnosis. The AI had identified the fracture type, its location, and even the potential complications faster than my radiology report.
Why This is a Big Deal 
I know AI in healthcare is advancing rapidly, but I didn’t expect this level of accuracy. While ChatGPT isn’t a replacement for a doctor, it proved to be an incredible preliminary diagnostic tool, especially when waiting for official results can be stressful.
